Jisc Collections negotiates with publishers at a national level to procure and license affordable digital content for the UK education and research community. Librarians in member institutions access this service via the Jisc Collections website. Jisc Collections engaged Sero HE to review the services provided by the website both from a business process and systems perspective, and from a member perspective.
Sero carried out interviews with Jisc staff who work with the website and the associated services, and consulted Jisc members through focus groups and an online survey. The Sero team was able to bring knowledge of the UK education and library sectors to bear, as well as call on specialist expertise in relation to ecommerce systems by working in partnership with other consultancies and technical specialists. The result of this work was:
- A set of options for future actions
- An analysis of these options based on investment required, potential benefits, associated risks, and associated costs
- A clear recommendation which is now being acted upon
